Spellbook helps lawyers quickly draft language, flag risks, and derive insights from legal docs. About the Role:
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for spearheading our AI research & development team. This will include identifying opportunities for fast pragmatic "hacking" and improvements, as well as medium and longterm initiatives.
You will have the opportunity to drive our AI roadmap, recruit a world-class team of dedicated engineers & researchers, and work closely with our product/engineer teams to turn groundbreaking experiments into practical applications that will redefine the legal industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing all AI projects, ensuring they align with our company's strategic goals
- Getting in the weeds with data analysis and prototyping yourself
- Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to translate research findings into actionable insights and product enhancements
- Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of high-performing research scientists and AI engineers
- Cultivating a culture of rapid experimentation & action
- Establish and manage the R&D budget
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in leading AI/ML research projects and turning new breakthroughs into practical applications
- Strong technical knowledge and vision, with a demonstrated history of leading research and development teams in the development of cutting-edge technology, bringing these products to market on time and within budget
- Solid understanding of NLP, large language models and generative AI technologies
- Strong programming skills, experience with AI/ML frameworks and LLMs
- A proven ability to attract, inspire, motivate, and retain top-tier diverse talent
- Experience with distributed teams
